While the list below is not exhaustive, it highlights key federal regulations that guide the university’s operations and help ensure a safe and positive campus environment for all students, employees, and guests.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal civil rights law passed in 1990 to protect individuals with disabilities from discrimination and to ensure equal access to services and facilities. The ADA addresses accessibility and accommodations in areas such as service animals, accessible parking, and mobility devices.
Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA)
The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA) of 1989 requires institutions of higher education to establish policies that address unlawful possession, use, or distribution of alcohol and illicit drugs for faculty, staff, and students.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. FERPA governs access to and disclosure of education records maintained by institutions.
Higher Education Act (HEA)
The Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965 is a federal law that governs the administration of federally funded higher education programs.
Title VI
Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
Title IX
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
