Clery Act
The Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act) was enacted as a federal law in 1990 to promote transparency and safety at colleges and universities throughout the United States. The Clery Act requires all federally funded institutions to disclose information about campus crime, outline their security policies and procedures, and report initiatives taken throughout the year to enhance campus safety. This information is made publicly accessible through UW-Whitewater’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFR).
At UW-Whitewater, campus safety is a shared responsibility. The UW-Whitewater Police Department, in collaboration with Campus Security Authorities (CSAs), work to identify, report, and respond to criminal activity and potential safety threats. This system ensures that every member of the campus community has a reporting option they feel comfortable using if they ever witness or experience a crime.
Below, you will find more information about the Clery Act and how it is implemented at UW-Whitewater.
