BASIC NEEDS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

Supporting Warhawks’ well-being and success

Access to basic needs is essential to UW-Whitewater students’ health, academic success, and overall well-being.

Are you a student with a basic need not being met? Don’t be afraid to ask for help — you belong here, and we are dedicated to your success. Use the resources below as your starting point.

If you’re looking to address a basic need beyond what is listed below, there’s a good chance you’ll find it on our One Stop page. For further assistance, fill out our basic needs request form or contact the Dean of Students office, located in room 2130 of Andersen Hall, at deanofstudents@uww.edu or 262-472-1533.

Financial assistance

Looking for emergency assistance? Need help with personal finance, financial education, or financial literacy? We’re here to help you. Visit our One Stop web page to explore how work study and student employment can help you offset costs.

Food

UW-Whitewater’s Warhawk Pantry goes above and beyond a normal food pantry. We are not just taking in nonperishable items from a food bank — our fresh produce is grown on the Whitewater campus in our Campus Garden. Healthy and nutritious frozen meals are available from Warhawk Dining and the campus dietitian as part of a food rescue program. Plus, we offer more than free food — toiletry items and other supplies are also available to students as available.

There is also a pantry available on the Rock County campus. Contact uwwrockinfo@uww.edu for more information.

Housing

Affordable housing is available on the Whitewater campus, and community resources are available to those who need immediate assistance.

Health and well-being

UW-Whitewater offers several free resources for current students to take care of themselves and others on their journey to graduation.

Child care and family care

UW-Whitewater’s award-winning Children's Center is located in the Roseman building on the Whitewater campus, so it’s local to students on the Whitewater campus. More than just a day care, the Children’s Center offers a child-centered curriculum for infants and toddlers ages three months to five years old.

Are you a parenting student on campus? The Children’s Center has supplies that include parenting basics, and toys and trinkets to occupy your little Warhawks while you’re in classes and meetings. If you’re graduating, borrow a cap and gown! Contact ccdirector@uww.edu to learn more.

Breastfeeding and lactation rooms are available on both the Whitewater and Rock County campuses.

Clothing

The Warhawk Success Closet is located in McCutchan Hall room 226 on the Whitewater campus. The clothes closet includes free, professional clothing, shoes, and accessories for Warhawks as they seek internships and jobs.

The Cold Weather Cupboard — which contains warm clothing for winter weather — is located outside the biology lab in Upham Hall on the Whitewater campus. Contact Heather Pelzel for more information.

Technology

We are here to make sure Warhawks can access computer hardware, software, and connectivity. Wifi is free for students on both the Whitewater and Rock County campuses with a NetID login.
