Sexual Assault and Harassment: Know Your Rights & Resources.
Sexual assault and harassment affect people of all backgrounds. No one is immune.
- 1 in 4 women and 1 in 26 men experience sexual assault during college.
- 1 in 2 transgender individuals will experience sexual violence in their lifetime.
If you or someone you know has been affected, support is available.
Confidential Resources:
- University Health & Counseling Services
- Counseling Services: Free & confidential support for UW-W students. Call 262-472-1305 to schedule an appointment
- Health Services: Free & confidential support for UW-W students. Health staff do not conduct sexual assault forensic exams (SANE exams), though can assis students with this process. Call 262-472-1300 to schedule an appointment.
- New Beginnings Professional Advocate: Free and confidential community resource available at UHCS during the academic year to discuss sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. Call 262-723-4653 to set up a meeting.
Campus Resources:
- University Police - Report campus related incidents at 262-472-4660 or call 911 in an emergency.
- Office of Student Life/Title IX Office - File a misconduct complaint, request academic accommodations, or learn more about your options. You can contact the Title IX office in person, by phone at 262-472-2473, email, or via online reporting form.
- Housing Support - Contact your RA or Complex Director to request a room change if needed.
Community Resouces:
- Police - Report off-campus incidents to local Police or contact 911 in emergency
- Medical Services - Seek medical attention for injuries, sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy prevention. Free forensic exams are done at the hospital to preserve evidence, even if you are not sure you want to report the assault.
LGBTQ+ Resources - The WCADV/WCASA LGBTQ Resource Library provides an overview of resources that are available to LGBTQ survivors.
Understanding Consent & Taking Action:
- Consent = A clear, informed, and freely given yes - not silence, coercion, or impairment due to drugs or alcohol.
- Sexual assault is a crime. The legal consequences can include up to 60 years of imprisonment.
What to do if you experience sexual assault:
- Get to a safe place. Call 911 if you have life threatening injuries.
- Reach out for support. Talk to a trusted family, friends, or advocate.
- Seek medical attention. Free forensic exams are available at hospitals - even if you're unsure about reporting.
- Consider reporting. Contact University Police (on-campus) or local police (off-campus).
- Know your rights! You can request changes to your academic schedule, housing, and support services
