Masters Internship

The University of Wisconsin- Whitewater's University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) has served as a training site for masters internship and doctoral practicum students in counseling, psychology and social work students for several decades. UHCS offers a range of mental health services for UW-Whitewater students, including counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, support groups and other health and wellness enhancement services.

The Training Program at UHCS provides supervised experience in an integrated university Counseling, Health and Wellness Center where intern training is woven into every aspect of the center's functioning. The multi-disciplinary clinical staff includes professional counselors, psychologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, physicians and medical assistants.

Direct service activities include individual and group counseling, consultation, and outreach activities. Supervision and training are geared to the intern's level of professional development. Training activities include weekly Individual Supervision, Group Supervision, informal case consultation, and weekly Didactic Seminars.
 
A multidisciplinary professional staff provides interns exposure to varied clinical perspectives and theoretical orientations. Most staff members are involved with supervising and mentoring our interns either by providing individual supervision, seminars, or consultation.

Our Masters Interns:

1. Complete a two semester, 22 hour per week, academic year training experience.
2. Have the opportunity to provide individual and group counseling as well as engage in outreach activities.
3. Receive 2 hours of weekly individual supervision, 1 hour a week of group supervision and 2 hours a week of training seminars.
4. Are supervised by a licensed training team which represents a variety of professional backgrounds and theoretical orientations.

UHCS accepts applications for our Masters Internship program in the early spring for the upcoming fall semester.

• Applications for the Fall Semester are due March 1st.
• Submit:
  • A cover letter addressing your strength and growth areas and why you believe you would be a good fit for UHCS.
  • An updated resume
  • An unofficial copy of your transcripts
