Counseling Masters Internship & Doctoral Practicum Training Program

University Health and Counseling Services offers a range of mental health services for UW-Whitewater students, including counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, support groups and other health and wellness enhancement services. The multi-disciplinary clinical staff includes professional counselors, psychologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, physicians and medical assistants. UHCS offers a clinically and professionally diverse training experience.

The University Health & Counseling Service (UHCS) Counseling Training Program is committed to the university teaching mission by providing a dynamic experience in support of the professional development of graduate students from the fields of Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work.

UHCS Trainees have the opportunity to enhance their intake, treatment, assessment, consultation, and documentation skills. Trainees are encouraged to co-facilitate a group with senior staff and participate in UHCS outreach activities.

Our Masters Interns and Doctoral Practicum students:

1. Complete a two semester, 20-22 hour per week academic year training experience.
2. Have the opportunity to provide individual and group counseling as well as engage in ourtreach activities.
3. Receive 2 hours of weekly individual supervision, 1 hour a week of group supervision and 1 hour a week of training seminars.
4. Are supervised by a licensed training team which represents a variety of professional backgrounds and theoretical orientations.

UHCS accepts applications for our Masters Internship/Doctoral Practicum program in the spring for the upcoming fall semester.

Guidelines for Applying to the UHCS Counseling Masters Internship and Doctoral Practicum Training Program:

  • Applications for the Fall Semester are due March 1st.
  • Submit:
    • A cover letter addressing your strength and growth areas and why you believe you would be a good fit for UHCS.
    • An updated resume
    • An unofficial copy of your transcripts
  • Submit (preferably electronically) to
