CRLA and Supplemental Instruction Certifications

CRLA certificate for level one CRLA certificate The international center for supplemental instruction

Campus Tutorial Services has been awarded Level 1 (Certified), Level 2 (Advanced) and Level 3 (Master) International Tutor Training Certification by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).  Certification sets standards of training, skill development, and evaluation for our program and our tutors. Achieving certification means that Campus Tutorial Services has met CRLA’s high standards for tutor selection, training, direct service, and evaluation as an integral part of their overall tutoring program. The CRLA is endorsed by the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).

Campus Tutorial Services has also been awarded the International Peer Educator Training Program Certification (IPTPC) by CRLA. The certification sets standards and guidelines for the minimum skills and training peer educators need to be successful and also inspires peer educator trainers to go beyond minimum standards to create training programs that challenge peer educators to the highest level of expertise they can achieve. For more information about the requirements, benefits, and training opportunities for our tutors, please read more on our "CRLA Certification" page.

Campus Tutorial Services also provides official Supplemental Instruction (SI) training to its tutors.  Supplemental Instruction, created at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, is a non-remedial approach to learning that supports students toward academic success by integrating “what to learn” with “how to learn.” SI consists of regularly scheduled, voluntary, out-of-class group study sessions driven by students’ needs. Sessions are facilitated by SI-trained peer leaders who utilize collaborative activities to ensure peer-to-peer interaction in small groups. SI is implemented in high-risk courses in consultation with academic staff and is supported and evaluated by trained supervisors.
