Safety Reports & Statistics
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or Clery Act, signed in 1990, is a federal statute requiring all colleges and universities who receive federal funding to share information about crime on campus and their efforts to improve campus safety as well as inform the public of crime in or around campus. This information is made publicly accessible through the university's annual security report. Public crime and safety information can help with informed decisions when it comes to choosing institutions to pursue further higher education.
The Clery Act applies to certain crimes (see Clery Act Crime Categories) occurring on University property reported to the police and/or university faculty or staff known as Campus Security Authorities (CSA). CSA’s are mandated crime reporters per the Clery Act. Crime statistics are then compiled and reported under the university's Annual Campus Crime and Fire Safety report.
UW- Whitewater Police Department makes available all relevant calls that police officers are called to.
Crime & Fire Log:
- The Crime and Fire log will be combined for the main campus. The Crime Log for the Rock campus remains the same.
- The Crime log entries will include all crimes for both campuses, as well as Clery-specific crimes. This remains the same as previous versions except for Alcohol cases. Under Wisconsin law, underage alcohol is not a “crime”, but we report Alcohol numbers in our Annual Security Report in the spirit of transparency. To better follow recommendations learned from Clery training, Alcohol calls will be added to the crime log.
- Crime logs are also made up of relevant crime reports from various reporting offices on campus, and local law enforcement reports. These crimes must fall within the Clery geography reportable for UW-Whitewater under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Clery Act, to be added to the Crime Log.
- If a crime is listed as “Under Investigation” in the disposition, any change in disposition within the next 60 days will be updated on the log.
Activity Log:
- The activity log will be pre-populated from our records management system.
- Personally Identifying Information (PII) including room numbers, names, or something deemed PII will be redacted.
