Reporting Options

There are several options for reporting an incident of sexual assault, interpersonal violence (including domestic and dating violence), stalking, sexual harassment, and sex discrimination.

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater strongly encourages any student or employee who believes they have experienced an incident of sexual assault, interpersonal violence (including domestic and dating violence), stalking, sexual harassment, and sex discrimination to seek prompt assistance from the university and/or police. You may disclose a concern to the Title IX Coordinator or one of the Deputy Title IX Coordinators, or make an online report.

When you report a concern to the Title IX Coordinator or a Deputy Title IX Coordinator, if contact information is provided, staff will generally begin by inviting you to an initial discussion. The purpose of this conversation is to discuss available resources, supportive measures, and resolution options. You can choose what information you would like to share.

As you consider your options, it is important to keep a few things in mind:

• Support is available throughout the reporting process. If you would like to talk to a confidential resource before reporting, please reach out to a confidential resource.
• Disclosing a concern to the Title IX Coordinator or a Deputy Title IX Coordinator doesn’t automatically initiate an investigation process. Unless there is an immediate or ongoing risk to individual or community safety, choices regarding next steps will generally be left up to you.
• Learn more information about Confidentiality and Privacy as well as Amnesty.
• The Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Title IX Coordinators are available to answer any questions you may have about reporting options.
• If you are in immediate danger and need help, call 911. The UW-Whitewater Police Department also has a non-emergency line at 262-472-4660.

If you are seeking criminal penalties (such as incarceration or sex offender registration), you may file a report to the relevant law enforcement agency. Law enforcement can help individuals understand the process of obtaining orders of protection, restraining orders, or similar lawful orders issued by the courts.

Reports should be filed with the agencies located where the incident occurred.

You may report without sharing your name by using the electronic reporting form via EthicsPoint. Your report will be forwarded to the appropriate staff for review. Depending on the amount of information disclosed, the University's ability to investigate and respond to the report may be limited.
