What Makes the Northern Cardinal Such a Winner?
In a constantly changing world, many organisms suffer due to their inability to adapt. Yet, there are some species that do not seem to mind change and can make the best of what’s around. These ‘survivor’ species typically can eat a variety of foods, inhabit several types of habitats, have greater reproductive capacity, and often have robust immunity. The Northern Cardinal is a very popular bird in North America that is a perfect example of a species that does well in the face of change. This lecture will discuss the characteristics of the Northern Cardinal that make it a ‘survivor.’
