Student Parking


New Freshmen Residents

Completing your housing application and registering for Warhawks SOAR are two ways to let us know you are serious about attending UW-Whitewater. New freshmen who complete both steps by May 10th will receive an equal opportunity to purchase a parking pass through random selection. Please note, parking is not guaranteed, as spaces are limited. Each year, about one-third of freshmen are able to buy a permit. 

You will be notified of your permit status the week of May 26th. If you are eligible to purchase a permit You will receive an email notification from Parking Services the week of July 13th with your assigned resident lot and with a link to pay for your permit. Please pay for your permit within one week of notification to ensure your spot.  If you no longer need your permit, please contact Parking Services at parking@uww.edu. Thank you!

Waitlist

Students who do not receive a permit, either through the lottery or missing the deadline, will be automatically placed on a waitlist and notified via email as permits become available.

Many students are able to secure permits before the start of the spring semester due to graduations and other openings. In the meantime, please note that a weekend shuttle services the Milwaukee area, and many students find they do not need a car thanks to on-campus employment opportunities and ride-sharing with friends.

Please do not bring a car to campus for overnight parking until you have purchased a resident permit. If you have any questions, contact Parking Services at parking@uww.edu.

Continuing and Transfer Students

Parking permits are guaranteed for continuing students and transfer students who reapply for housing and indicate their desire to purchase a parking permit by May 10th. Applicants who reapply after May 10th will be added to a waitlist and will be granted the ability to purchase a permit as space allows.

How To Make Permit Vehicle Changes

Parking permits are now digital and are enforced via License Plate Recognition (LPR). This means you will not receive any physical permit, because your license plate is your permit.  Therefore, it is the permit holder's responsibility to maintain an accurate vehicle record.  If there is any need to change vehicle associated with a permit, please log into the Parking Portal and make the necessary changes directly under your permit. Please note that the vehicle associated to the permit must be registered to the permit holder.

Permit Types

Resident permits are lot-specific, meaning they are only valid in one lot and nowhere else (see parking map). Resident permits do not cover metered, reserved, service, or any other stalls with signage. The only exception to this is Resident Accessible permits, which you can learn more about here. Resident permits are valid from the time of purchase through the conclusion of the academic year in May.

There are three categories of Resident permits:

Standard ($335): Lots 2R, 4R, 8, 9R, 17, 18, 19, 20

Remote ($185): Lot 22

Reserved ($535): Lots 3 and 9

Resident permits are only authorized for use by individuals living in campus residence halls and have their prices prorated throughout the year. If your housing contract is canceled, your permit will be revoked. Information regarding refunds and prorations can be found here.

General Commuter Information

Students who do not live in a residence hall on campus and who will be driving to campus for classes can purchase a Commuter parking permit.   Commuter permits are only valid in designated commuter parking lots in the academic and athletic areas of campus, and do not allow parking in resident lots.   Commuter permits do not cover metered, reserved, service, or any other stalls with signage. If you park in a metered (AMP) stall, you must pay for the time parked by downloading the app.  Commuter permits are not authorized for use by individuals living in campus residence halls, and do not allow overnight parking.  Violators will be subject to tickets.

Permit Types

There are two types of Commuter permits:

North (includes lots 11, 18, 19, 21, and 24): $155

South (includes lots 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 12, 14, Prince Street, and Prairie Street): $235

Commuter permits are restricted to their designated lots during the day (see parking map), but may utilize any commuter lots after 5PM. For example: students with a North Commuter permit can park in Lot 12 to study at the library, or students with a South Commuter permit can park in Lot 11 next to the Williams Center as long as it is after 5PM. Parking in the wrong area before 5PM will result in an Improper Lot citation being issued.

Commuter permits are valid from the time of purchase through the end of August, and have their prices prorated throughout the year. If you leave campus and are no longer considered a student or staff member, your permit will be revoked. Information regarding refunds and prorations can be found here.

Commuting students who drive infrequently may use any on-campus pay-by-space stalls by downloading the AIMS Mobile Pay parking app. Please note these are short-term parking spaces with a maximum 2 hour parking limit; you will not be able to extend your session after reaching this limit. Metered stall fees are required at all times except for University recognized holidays and on weekends (starting at 5PM on Friday and extending through 11PM on Sunday).

Summer Permit Information

Students who will be living on campus during the summer should purchase a Summer Resident permit for $85 after the spring semester concludes.  Summer resident permits are not valid in reserved, restricted, or metered (AMP) stalls, but are able to park in any of the following resident lots until the end of August: 2R, 4R, 8, 9R, 17, 18, 19, 20, or 22.

Students who will be commuting to campus during the summer can either continue using their commuter permit from the school year if they have one, or purchase one at a prorated price. Commuter permits are valid in any commuter lot once the spring semester concludes, and are no longer limited to the North vs South designations used during the school year. Commuter permits are still not valid in resident lots, or in reserved, restricted, or metered (AMP) stalls for the summer.

General Refund Information

If you leave the University and have a long-term annual permit and want to cancel that permit, you must complete the Request for Refund form. A prorated refund will be processed within 1 week from the date the refund form is submitted. The refund will be based on the date Parking Services has received the refund request form. If we do not receive a refund form but you are no longer affiliated with the university, your permit will simply be revoked.

Permits are refunded on a quarterly prorated schedule.   This schedule begins on September 1st each year.

Full-year permits have a four-quarter prorated schedule: Commuter (North and South). Full-year permits are not eligible for a refund after May 31st.

Academic-year permits have a three-quarter prorated schedule:   Resident Lots 2R, 3, 4R, 8, 9, 9R, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, and Accessible. Resident permits are valid for only three quarters which means they are not eligible for a refund after February 28th.

If you purchased a permit by Bill Account and do not complete the Request for Refund form, you will be responsible for the total permit fee.

A student who purchases an on-campus resident permit is responsible for notifying Parking Services and completing the refund form if they move off campus.   Resident permits will be revoked if a student no longer lives in a residence hall, meaning that permit will no longer be valid.  Students are eligible to exchange the resident permit for a commuter permit in this case, but commuter permits do not allow for overnight parking. 

Proration Schedule

Permits are sold and refunded on a quarterly proration schedule.  

FIRST QUARTER:  September 1 to November 30

SECOND QUARTER:  December 1 to February 28

THIRD QUARTER:  March 1 to May 31

FOURTH QUARTER:  June 1 to August 31
