More than 1,500 graduates crossed the stage Saturday to receive their degrees during morning and afternoon commencement ceremonies at Kachel Fieldhouse inside the Williams Center.
UW-Whitewater will celebrate the achievements of its graduates on Saturday, May 17, and Tuesday, May 20, as proud families and friends gather for the 2025 spring commencement ceremonies on the Whitewater and Rock County campuses.
Plans to renovate Winther Hall, home of UW-Whitewater’s College of Education and Professional Studies, and Heide Hall are officially underway. Renderings of interior and exterior spaces have been finalized by the university and Somerville Architects + Engineers.
The Warhawk men’s bowling club claimed the 2025 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championship on April 14-19 in Las Vegas to finish off an impressive season, when it swept the conference, national club, and national collegiate championships.
The Rock County campus recently opened its Creative Studio, a versatile multimedia space where students, faculty, staff and community members can record and stream podcasts, music or videos. Trevor Rees, lecturer of communication and theatre arts, is helping bring the space to life to enhance student success.
After an intensive three-year review process, the UW-Whitewater Police earned national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), which is widely considered the gold standard in public safety. UW-Whitewater joins UW-Madison as one of two Universities of Wisconsin to achieve the professional status.
March was a month of national titles for UW-Whitewater student-athletes and teams. Warhawk gymnasts Tegan Haberstock and Paige Magel shared the individual national championship on the balance beam at the 2025 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Division III Championship to lead the team to a national runner-up finish, and men’s club bowling won the 2025 Collegiate Club National Championship tournament for the team’s third national title in the last seven years.
Seven members of the Warhawk family will be recognized for their professional achievements and/or contributions to UW-Whitewater as Distinguished Alumni Award winners at the Founders Day Celebration on April 26 inside the University Center.

As a member of the Warhawk family for nearly 30 years, Roger Yin values empowerment of students to maximize learning in his classroom and outside of it. The professor of information technology earned the W.P. Roseman Excellence in Teaching Award in 2024.
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will present its Carnegie Hall program this Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. in The Young. On March 11, the group will once again make history as it presents its third performance in the New York City concert hall, one of the world’s most famous venues! The ensemble was the first-ever university band to perform there, and no other school has performed there more than once.
UW-Whitewater is partnering with the Universities of Wisconsin for “Mascots on Main,” a social media campaign showcasing the strong relationships between the universities and businesses around the state. Last month, Chancellor Corey King and Willie Warhawk visited eight Whitewater businesses to deliver Universities of Wisconsin window decals and thank them for their support of the university.
UW-Whitewater Associate Professor of Chemistry Steven Girard, at left in photo, is one of three recipients of the 2024 Universities of Wisconsin Innovation Grant. Girard plans to work with students and community partners to build technology that would produce better, more cost-effective bioactive glass-silicide coatings for use in biomedicine and aerospace.
UW-Whitewater was recently ranked among the top 70 in the nation in six categories among more than 1,800 schools surveyed by the U.S. News & World Report, which released its 2025 Best Online Programs rankings. Programs in the College of Business and Economics account for five of the categories.
A recent study by UW-Whitewater's Fiscal and Economic Research Center (FERC) revealed the university's incredible impact on Wisconsin. UW-Whitewater and its alumni — more than 38,000 currently working in the state — contribute $1.4 billion to Wisconsin's economy each year.

Marketing students Alma Diaz-Cosme and Maribel Rodriguez embraced the power of shared experiences — and a resulting fast friendship — to make the most out of their time as Warhawks. Both transferred to the Whitewater campus after starting at Rock County.
As UW-Whitewater recognized its students, faculty and staff who have served or are serving in the military during Veterans Week, Military Times announced that it ranked the university as one of just four schools in Wisconsin in the top 150 of its 2024 Best for Vets ranking — the largest and most comprehensive ranking of the best schools for military service members and veterans in the nation.
UW-Whitewater is excited to announce the creation of the Harold M. Perry ’33 and Margaret A. Perry Endowed Faculty Chair! This $2 million gift will support a selected UW-Whitewater faculty member or members to tackle complex issues, develop long-term solutions, and positively affect Wisconsin’s economy and student success.

Over the summer, four UW-Whitewater students visited Antigua, Guatemala, for meetings, workshops and cultural immersion with ProChapina, a nonprofit organization that supports and empowers Guatemalan women through professional training and service. The university’s American Marketing Association and Enactus chapters are working to make the business sustainable.

Preliminary numbers show a steady growth in enrollment here at UW-Whitewater. According to figures released today by the Universities of Wisconsin, UW-Whitewater is one of eight universities to show enrollment growth.
Six Warhawks earned gold medals for Team USA by winning the men’s wheelchair basketball competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Team USA defeated Great Britain 73-69 in Saturday’s final. On the women’s side, former Warhawk Mariska Beijer led Team Netherlands to the gold medal. A campus cookout will immediately follow in the James R. Connor University Center Hamilton Room.
To continue our commitment to students and student success, UW-Whitewater will launch One Stop, an information and one-on-one support resource for students on the Whitewater campus, on August 19. The office, which will serve as an extension of many campus services, will be located in room 129 of the University Center. Student Success Coaching will also be available for students within this space. More information about One Stop will be released in the coming weeks – please contact onestop@uww.edu with any immediate questions.
