LAWTON GRANT
The Lawton Undergraduate Minority Retention Grant aims to increase the retention rate of underrepresented students by providing them with a series of higher education opportunities while reducing the burden of student debt.

The LUMRG is an incentive-based award. In order to receive the grant, qualifying applicants must complete an application and meet all 10 qualifications listed under the Lawton Grant Qualifications tab.
New Applicants - A student who has never applied before.
Complete a New Applicant application and submit the following items:
- Financial Literacy (Quiz or Waiver)
- Professional Resume or Involvement Form
- Personal Goal Statement
Lawton Grant now will only accept online applications through Qualtrics.
The Lawton Grant award provides funds to qualifying undergraduate minority students. Please see below for a list of qualifications:
- WI Resident
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Designated ethnicity: African-American, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American, and/or *Southeast Asian
- Demonstrate financial need determined by the Financial Aid Office
- Sophomore status or above (24+ credits earned)
- Attained at least a 2.0 GPA
- Enrolled full-time
- Maintained Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
- Has not exceeded the maximum awarding of 8 semesters
- Completed FAFSA
*Southeast Asian applicants must be of Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian, and/or Vietnamese heritage.
The LUMRG award is available for qualifying students enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, including students at our Rock County Campus. Transfer students with 24 credits and/or more will be evaluated on grades received at their previous institution.
New Applicant (typically freshman, sophomore or transfer student)
- Fill out the application form.
- Once completed, the Lawton Grant Office will review the application.
- If the application is completed correctly, the student will receive a confirmation email stating their application has or will be processed.
- If the application is completed incorrectly, the submitted application will be marked incomplete with comments referring to the mistakes.
- Re-submit the application if it was marked incomplete after making the proper adjustments.
The award provides between $2,500 and $3,500 per academic year to qualifying students. Please note that all awards represent the total financial aid granted per academic year to a qualifying applicant. The award amount may change in accordance to an applicant's Financial Need status.
The Lawton Grant is awarded based off the applicant's cumulative GPA.

No official deadline, but applications will be processed by submission dates and will be awarded until all funding is disbursed.
The Lawton Grant application is distributing funds on a first come, first served basis. We will continue to deliver the grant until all funding has been disbursed. We encourage students to complete their application as soon as possible, as funds are limited. Once a student completes their Lawton Grant application, please allow the Lawton Grant and Financial Aid Office about two weeks to process and distribute the funds.
