Communication is Key
The community you gain as a communication major is one of a kind. Your classmates and professors become your UW-Whitewater family. They push you to be the best version of yourself.
Catherine Gangi ‘14, UW-Whitewater Communications Department alum
Communication – whether it is a written report to a colleague, an advertisement for a new car, or a news report on your favorite team – is key. And it is an invaluable and learned skill. In the UW-Whitewater Department of Communication, we know the value of communication and we know how to teach it to our Warhawk students. The proof is in our accomplishments.
Our communication online master’s program was on the PR News “2021 Educational A-List” for institutions advancing the careers of PR and communication professionals along with other notable schools like Columbia, John Hopkins and Boston universities.
- The Warhawk forensics team regularly wins over 100 awards a year. Last year the team won 121 awards and included 12 tournament champions.
- Internships provide our students with profound on-the-job experience. During the pandemic, 55 Communication and Journalism majors gained industry experience through remote internships.
Today's Warhawks are following in our alumni’s footsteps and building the foundation for their lives after UW-Whitewater.
We hope you will consider being a founding donor in the Communication and Journalism Greatest Needs Fund that will support the UW-Whitewater Communication program and students through:
- Communication Department Ambassadors program — Communication Ambassadors receive a scholarship award and serve as the "face" of the Department of Communication. They participate in student recruitment, alumni activities and act as student spokespeople for the department.
- Student-focused experiences — Communication students can learn applied work skills through student organizations, such as the Whitewater Advertising Association (WAA). WAA allows students to work with businesses and organizations around the campus and community to create unique advertising/social media campaigns.
- Student Recognition Awards — We recognize our talented students through the presentation of 20 awards in recognition of accomplishments such as the best student in each major program and notable non-traditional student. Your support would allow for the addition of a financial award to these outstanding students.
Your gift – of any size – to the Communication and Journalism Greatest Needs Fund today will make a difference tomorrow and into the future.
