Counselor Education

Aaron Mertes

Clinical Interests

My background is in rehabilitation counseling, which is a combination of mental health counseling, disability studies, and career counseling.  My background is a varied combination of these things, from inpatient and crisis counseling to college counseling and outpatient therapy. I’ve very much enjoyed learning to support students from their first practice session, to first client, to licensing, and beyond.  Clinically, my interest is in keeping or finding quality of life in the midst of chronic illness or disability.

About Me

I have a wife and young son, so much of my time is spent with them.  I love learning new skills, anything from knitting to coding computers to woodworking.  I also spend a lot of time in service to the profession of counseling by serving on various boards and special projects.  Some days I love that and other days I hope for more quiet walks in the woods with my dogs. There’s just too many fun or important things to do with our one short life.
