Implementing Translanguaging Strategies for Emergent Bilingual Students
This workshop is open to any K-12 educator, administrator, or teacher educator who would like to build upon their knowledge of culturally- and linguistically-sustaining instructional practices for emergent bilinguals. Do you want to learn more about the foundations of implementing translanguaging pedagogies in your classroom? With a baseline knowledge of translanguaging pedagogies, you will have the skills to intentionally integrate students’ home and community languages into instruction! Join Drs. Chiu-Yin Cathy Wong (Monmouth University, New Jersey) and Leah Shepard-Carey (Drake University, Iowa) for this 90-minute interactive virtual workshop. Together, we will establish an understanding of pedagogical translanguaging and identify key practices for cultivating a multilingual ecology in our classrooms and schools. You will also leave with specific translanguaging strategies and resources you can use in your classrooms immediately. Come ready to ask questions and interrogate common challenges of implementing translanguaging pedagogies in English-medium spaces.
