On-Campus Interviews

UW-Whitewater offers on-campus interviews on the Career Services office in University Center room 129. We have two interview rooms for organizations to use to conduct interviews with applicants.

Career Services assists employers in setting up their interview schedules and works to make the experience for employers as efficient as possible. There is no fee for this service.

Campus Interview Day

Career Services reserves extra space to accommodate several on-campus interviews on the day following the semesterly Hawk Career Fair. This is promoted as 'Campus Interview Day'. To reserve an interview space on Campus Interview Day, please submit a request in Handshake or contact Sarah Stolberg at stolbers@uww.edu.

General Information

The interview rooms are accessible beginning at 8:00am until 5:00pm Monday - Thursday, and until 4:30pm on Friday. We recommend starting interviews at or around 8:30am to allow for time to access the room and set up.

To request a date to interview UW-Whitewater students on-campus, please submit an Interview Schedule request in Handshake or contact Sarah Stolberg at stolbers@uww.edu or (262) 472-1950. Please note that space is limited so we may not be able to accommodate your request.

Instructions on how to submit an Interview Schedule request in Handshake.

Platinum and Gold Employer Sponsors of Career Services are offered a priority interview date selection window prior ro each semester to request on-campus interview dates. After the priority request window closes, all other interview requests are reserved in the order that they were received.

Types of Interview Schedules and How to Request a Date

Students can sign up for interview times through Handshake, or you can manage your schedule outside of Handshake.

Request a Room Only

Manage Your Own Schedule Outside of Handshake

If students will be  signing up for interviews directly with you or through your recruiting management system, we will need the following information to reserve the interview room(s):

  1. Date: Select a Preferred Date for the on-campus interviews and an Alternate Date.
  2. How Many Interview Rooms: Please note, we have two interview rooms available within the Career Services office. If more than two interview rooms are needed, alternate accommodations may be made with enough advance notice. However, this may further limit the dates and times that are available.
  3. Times: For what period of time will the interview room(s) be reserved for? The interview rooms are available beginning at 8:00am and closing at 5:00pm Mondays - Thursdays, and until 4:30pm on Fridays. We recommend starting the first interview at or around 8:30am to allow time to access the room and get set up.
  4. Schedule Type: The type of interview schedule requested and setup in Handshake will be a 'Room Only' schedule. This is when Career Services will reserve the interview room(s), located within the University Center, but will not build an interview schedule timeline within Handshake. Instructions on how to apply and sign up for the on-campus interview can be included and made visible to students who are interested in applying.
  5. Additional Requests: Please be sure to include any additional requests or accommodations that may be needed. The two standard interview rooms that are available in the Career Services office include one small table and two to three chairs. These rooms can comfortably seat three people. If a larger space is needed, most commonly for panel interviews, please be sure to include this information in your request. Alternate rooms outside of the Career Services office would need to be reserved pending availability for your selected date.

All on-campus interview requests are considered pending until they are reviewed and approved by Career Services. You will receive confirmation once we have approved your interview requests.

Handshake Interview Schedule Management (Preselect or Open Schedule)

If students will be signing up for the interview time slots in Handshake, we will need the following information when setting up the interview schedule in Handshake:

  1. Date: Select a Preferred Date for the on-campus interviews and an Alternate Date.
  2. How Many  Interview Rooms: Please note, we have two interview rooms available within the Career Services office. If more than two interview rooms are needed, alternate accommodations can be made, based on the availability of rooms outside of the Career Services office. This may further limit the dates or times that are available.
  3. Time: For what period of time will the interview room(s) be reserved for? The interview rooms are available beginning at 8:00am and closing at 5:00pm Mondays - Thursdays, and until 4:30pm on Fridays. We recommend starting the first interview at or around 8:30am to allow time to access the room and get set up.
  4. Schedule Type: Select the type of interview schedule:
    1. Preselect Interview Schedule: Primary and  alternate student choices are selected during and at the end of the application period. Primary candidates will be notified to sign up for time slots prior to alternate candidates. A Preselect Interview schedule allows the employer to pre-screen applicants before they can select an interview time.
    2. Open Interview Schedule: During an 'open' period, any student who meets the specified job or interview qualifications is automatically allowed to reserve an interview slot after submitting an application in Handshake. If a student does not meet all qualifications, you will be prompted to review their application and approve/decline it manually.
  5. Interview Length: How long will each interview be?
  6. Job and Internship Postings for Interviews: Which postings in Handshake will be attached to this interview schedule?

All on-campus interview requests are considered pending until they are reviewed and approved by Career Services. You will receive confirmation once we have approved your interview requests.

Helpful Tips for On-Campus Interviews

What is the best time of year to host on-campus interviews?

The most common timeframes for on-campus interviews to occur are within 1-4 weeks following the semesterly Hawk Career Fairs. This makes mid-February through mid-March during the Spring semester and the month of October during the Fall semester the best times for on-campus interviews. Times to avoid include Spring Break, exam week, and the week of any major holidays.

Are on-campus or virtual interviews more common?

Post 2020, virtual interviews are more common for first interviews than on-campus interviews, as it allows for greater convenience for both the recruiter and the student. Virtual and on-campus interview schedules can both be requested and posted in Handshake.

I'm unable to submit an interview schedule in Handshake to UW-Whitewater. Can you help?

If you have never hosted on-campus interviews before at UW-Whitewater, it is possible that we haven't given your organization the correct permissions to request interview schedules in Handshake. If you are unable to find UW-Whitewater when setting up an interview schedule request, please contact Sarah Stolberg at stolbers@uww.edu or (262) 472-1950 to get the correct permissions.

Do you recommend hosting drop-in or walk-in interview dates?

No, we do not recommend this type of interview schedule. It is best to have students sign up for interviews ahead of your interview date, either directly or through Handshake. This ensures that you have students to interview on the day you visit campus. Drop-in interviews without set times typically have very low turn out and tend to be unsuccessful for the recruiter.
