The Roger Coppenbarger Woodwind Scholarship This scholarship was made possible by Larry Osterburg ’64 in honor of Professor Emeritus Roger Coppenbarger. It is awarded to a student who displays exceptional music abilities and is preferably a double reed student. LaGrange Society Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to piano students in the music department who have demonstrated musical excellence and academic success. Bushman/Pritchett Scholarship Established in honor of former UW-Whitewater Professor Franklin Bushman, this scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior who is pursuing a degree in music. Chancellor’s Quartet Scholarship  Members of the Department of Music’s string faculty select the members of the Chancellor’s Quartet, UW-Whitewater’s premier student string quartet, based on the students’ chamber music performance ability. The members of the quartet receive scholarships and are mentored by members of the string faculty. Gieryn Jazz Talent Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established by Stefan and Jennifer Gieryn to honor and recognize jazz studies at UW-Whitewater. James and Leita Feay Memorial Scholarship This scholarship, established by Sheila Feay-Shaw, former Assistant Professor and coordinator of music education, and her husband Steven Shaw, was founded in memory of Sheila’s parents and encourages excellence in music education. Gala Concert Scholarships These awards are facilitated through the efforts of students, faculty, family and friends of the Department of Music and are awarded to exemplary music students. Glenn and Christine Hayes Music Education Scholarship Carole Scharinger ’56 established this scholarship in honor of Glenn and Christine Hayes, who have provided exceptional musical direction and artistic support to hundreds of UW-Whitewater students, children and community members of all ages during the course of their respective professional careers. This scholarship shall be made to a declared music major within the College, with preference given to instrumental or choral/general music education students who are preparing to teach, direct, advocate and mentor others. Jo Ann H. Hobbs Endowed Music Scholarship This award was made possible by friends and family of Jo Ann H. Hobbs, who taught Applied Piano, and Harp and Piano Pedagogy for the Department of Music for 28 years. She demonstrated her love of music regularly on campus as well as in the community as both a solo and ensemble pianist and harpist. This scholarship supports music students pursuing a music degree with a piano emphasis. Howard G. Inglefield Music Scholarship This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Howard G. Inglefield, who was a professional musician in addition to his administrative and teaching duties at UW-Whitewater. This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in music education or performance within the College of Arts and Communication. Preference is given to double bass players. Robert L. Jennings Voice Scholarship Established by Professor Emeritus Robert L. Jennings, who taught in the Department of Music from 1966 to 1992, this award is given to a music major with a demonstrated commitment to academic excellence. Carlene McMonagle Scholarship Endowment This scholarship was made possible by friends and alumni in honor of Carlene McMonagle, distinguished voice instructor at UW-Whitewater from 1980 to 2005. It is awarded to a student enrolled in an academic program leading to a degree in music with an emphasis in voice. Dennis Rohrs Band Scholarship Endowment Established by Professor Emeritus Dennis Rohrs and his wife Margaret ’70, this scholarship was created for students enrolled in an academic program leading to a Bachelor of Music degree in music education with an instrumental emphasis in wind or percussion instruments. Dr. Robert K. Webb Family Scholarship This scholarship provides the conductor of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble of UW-Whitewater with resources to attract high-quality solo musicians to help balance the instrumentation and high caliber performance of this ensemble. The Vander Linden Voice Scholarship This scholarship is given in memory of Annie Vander Linden. Joyce Ryan Voice Scholarship This scholarship was initiated by UW-Whitewater emeritae Carlene McMonagle and Jo Ann Hobbs in honor of Joyce Ryan, who served UW-Whitewater for thirty-five years. She taught applied voice and created and/or taught fourteen different music courses, including Literature, Diction, Opera Performance, Theory, and Aural Skills, and served as Coordinator of the Voice Department for over twenty-five years. This scholarship supports students with a declared vocal performance and/or vocal music education major within the Department of Music. Grace A. Prugger Scholarship This award is given to a UW-Whitewater Music student who displays outstanding musicianship and accomplishment, participation in department activities, unique personality, and leadership. Admissions Music Talent Scholarship The Admissions Musical Talent scholarships are awarded to incoming students through the UW-Whitewater Admissions Office.  Preference is given to students who have received high marks in their UW-Whitewater music department audition, success in high school academics, as well as students who are coming to UW-Whitewater from a variety of states and populations.
