All College of Arts and Communication majors and some minors have advising holds. Note the specific advising requirements and processes for each major and minor as listed below. Prepare for your appointment by reviewing your degree audit in Stellic and a list of questions or concerns. Review the Schedule of Classes to get an idea of what courses you might be interested in. Complete the department specific advising worksheet prior to your advising appointment or advising event.   ART AND DESIGN MAJORS AND MINORS You have an advising hold. Each semester, all majors and minors in Art and Art Ed are required to meet with their designated advisor in the Department of Art and Design prior to registering for classes. You will need to make an appointment with your art advisor and complete an individual Advising Worksheet that will be sent out prior to the advising period. Once approved per your advisor, this worksheet will then be returned to the Department of Art and Design Office at which point the Department Advising Hold will be removed. More specific information will be shared prior to each advising period via email.   COMMUNICATION MAJORS Communication and Journalism — includes broadcast/print/web journalism, public relations, advertising, electronic media, international journalism and corporate and health communication. You have an advising hold. To remove that hold, you must participate in the Communication Department's group advising process. Communication minors do not have an advising hold.   MEDIA ARTS AND GAME DEVELOPMENT (MAGD) MAJORS AND MINORS (all emphases) You have an advising hold. Each semester, all MAGD Majors are required to meet with an MAGD advisor prior to registration. MAGD holds group advising sessions, at which students receive one on one advising from multiple advisors with expertise across the connected disciplines in the program (Art & Design, Communication, Music, Computer Science). This process ensures that students receive up-to-date disciplinary advice regarding course content and helps students refine their curriculum to match their program and career goals. Once you are advised, you will receive an Individualized Advising Sheet that must be turned in to the Department Office. Upon receipt of the signed Individual Advising Sheet, the Department ADA will release your Advising Hold. At that time, barring any additional holds (ie. Terms + Conditions or unpaid fees), you should be able to register for the classes you discussed in your meeting with your advisor. It is each student's responsibility to meet with an advisor and become familiar with programmatic expectations.
