Assistant Professor - Tenure-Track Position - Clinical/Counseling Psychology - 21237
ATTENTION:
The Department of Psychology in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of clinical or counseling psychology beginning August 2025.
This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate, and potentially graduate, courses; research; and service to the university and community. Research expertise should include specialization in clinical/counseling psychology.
JOB DETAILS:
The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach clinically-oriented undergraduate courses (e.g., psychopathology), and an introductory course in psychology or general education. Depending on specialization there is potential to teach clinically-oriented graduate courses as part of the School Psychology Program. In addition, the candidate will be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications, and contributes to advancing the department, the university, the profession, and society. The candidate will be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. We have a number of graduate assistants available to support instruction and research efforts, an excellent university Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and start-up funding is negotiable. Early career course load reduction to support research and other academic endeavors is potentially available.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D., Psy.D., or ABD in clinical or counseling psychology. Candidates who are ABD must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2025; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2026 in advance of their first scheduled review.
- Evidence of potential for effective teaching.
- Evidence of potential for maintaining a strong program of research that involves students in meaningful ways.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated record of effective teaching.
- Demonstrated record of a strong program of research involving students in meaningful ways.
- Research or clinical specialization in youth mental health.
- Training in evidence-based clinical interventions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Full-time teaching responsibilities (4 courses per semester) may include undergraduate courses in psychopathology, interviewing and psychotherapy techniques, and courses in the faculty member's area of specialization; graduate courses in child psychopathology and counseling skills as part of the School Psychology Program; and an introductory course in psychology or general education. Research expectations include maintaining an active program of research in clinical or counseling psychology with opportunities for undergraduate involvement. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community and professional organizations as relevant to the candidate's expertise and interest.
